Spending Shabbat in Paris, without the guesswork

Friday night: the four ways to have Shabbat dinner in Paris

1. The Grande Synagogue de la Victoire community dinner. A ticketed Shabbat dinner near rue de la Victoire (9th). Book ahead online, budget around €25 per person.
2. Pre-ordering through a Shabbat Box service. Full Shabbat meals delivered to your hotel or rental before candle lighting, with disposable tableware on request.
3. Delivery with a kosher filter before Shabbat begins. Several certified restaurants deliver on Friday afternoon. Check the kosher directory for who delivers where.
4. The Beth Habad network. Chabad houses across Paris host travellers for Shabbat meals. Contact them directly earlier in the week.

Getting around on Friday evening

Plan your Friday afternoon backwards from candle-lighting time: shopping first, hotel check-in early, and a route home you know. If you need to cross the city late on Friday, a pre-booked taxi or VTC is the calm option. Some métro lines are more comfortable than others for a visibly observant traveller. Visiting Paris on a Saturday: what is possible

Museums with electronic security portiques are the classic blocker for a strictly observant visitor on Shabbat. Two things unlock a Saturday visit:

• Full prepayment before Friday. No money changes hands on Shabbat. My booking process handles payment entirely in advance.

You will encounter several supervisions in Paris shops and restaurants: Beth Din de Paris, Rav Rottenberg, Loubavitch-Habad among others. Each establishment displays its own certificate, and standards vary between supervisions.
